Devil’s Water Hole is a magical place that I hadn’t been back to since I was about nine years old.
We asked for help finding “swimming holes” at the Visitors Bureau in Marble Falls and after the little old Grandmother working there finished explaining “Slabs” we asked her if she’d ever heard of “Devil’s Water Hole”. Her eyes got big and in a low and quiet voice like it was a big secret she said, “Yeah, it’s a great spot, want me to show you how to get there?”

Cliff Jumping at Devil's Water Hole and Yosemite
After “Slabs” we found Devil’s Water Hole on Inks Lake across from the State Park. I went back to the car to get the camera and when I walked down the path to the water’s edge Rachel and Kris were sitting on a rock contemplating the situation. You can jump from the top of or in front of the vertical rock with the guy in the red shirt standing on it.
I swam across, jumped from the lower level and swam back. When I returned I made the girls let me take their picture before they went to jump. They swam across, jumped from the lower level and then it wasn’t long until they were at the higher level, (in the photo above Rachel’s about to hit the water). There aren’t any pictures but I swam back across and jumped from the top for the first time ever. It’s really high! Later a Camp Longhorn barge showed up with a group of kids which completed our day.
In July when I visited Beth outside Yosemite the first thing she said after giving me a big hug was, “So I found some good cliff jumping spots.”
Word travels fast; July in Yosemite w/Beth...
After I’d jumped from the spot in photo to the left Beth said, “Oh, I did that one last weekend; I’m not doing it again!”
